The US mobile phone operator, Verizon, announced the increase in the minimum wage for retail, customer service and internal sales teams due to the increase in inflation in recent months.

In a statement, they reported that existing employees in these areas who earn less than $20 per hour will automatically receive the raise.

"Our V Teamers give their best every day to help our customers with all their needs, so we want to make sure we support them, too," said Verizon Consumer Group COO Krista Bourne.

Additionally, they will give extra payments to assistant managers who work on holidays and Sundays, in addition to all those who are bilingual.

"I am confident that these changes will help us attract and retain the best talent, thereby enhancing our customer experience," added Bourne.

Verizon is ranked as one of the best companies to work for, was named among the best employers in the world, including being the best employer for women according to Forbes in 2021.

In recent months, retailers such as Walmart and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc, as well as the Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant chain, have increased the minimum wage offered to their employees to attract more people to return to work.
