There are currently 30,200 occupied and salaried jobs in the construction sector in Puerto Rico, which means an increase of 51%, since by 2020 the figure was around 20,000 jobs.

This was confirmed by the president of the Economic Development Bank (BDE), Luis Alemañy González, at a time when he announced that the Builders Association (AC) joins other entities that have signed a collaborative agreement with the public corporation during the course of the year 2021 to strengthen ties between the public and private sectors.

“It is estimated that to meet the construction boom that we will have in the next few years, about 90,000 construction employees will be needed. Now they have increased to more than 30,000, a figure we had during the year 2013. That is why we want to help this sector to create more jobs, improve infrastructure and attract people who have left the island, ”Alemañy said.

The Economic Development Bank recently established other agreements with the United Center for Retailers (CUD), the Center for Small Business and Technology Development (Sbtdc), the College of Certified Public Accountants (CCPA), the Association of Restaurants of Puerto Rico (Asore), the Puerto Rico Franchise Association (AFPR), among other organizations.

It was reported that the BDE also reached agreements with the Department of Labor and Human Resources and the Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC) to serve the sectors of the economy affected by the covid-19 pandemic.
